My older brother is an attorney who is hired frequently for his reputation for being a relentless asshole when needed. He ALWAYS advocates polite civility as the first step.

I was SHOCKED when he told me, because he really can be an asshole, and I suppose that stories about getting your client to respectfully approach the other party and come to a peaceful agreement aren't all that interesting.

I LOVE this. Get yourself a lawyer who can do both!

I sometime feel like the only weirdo who wants a giant textbook of "stories about getting your client to respectfully approach the other party and come to a peaceful agreement." Attorneys are presumably paid less in these situations, which may make a peaceable approach less attractive to some. That's an assumption; I'd love to see data and empirical analyses. Something like Harvard's Negotiation Data Repository (https://dataverse.harvard.edu/dataverse/NegotiationDataRepository), but focused exclusively on creative subjects.
